AMSA Statement on Governance issues

Montreal - Friday, September 20, 2019

The following statement was issued by Franca Cristiano, the president of AMSA.

AMSA represents more than 100 in-school administrators in both the youth and adult sectors at the English Montreal School Board.

Over the last days and weeks we have seen a great deal of media coverage surrounding issues related to governance within the EMSB.  The members of our Association are united in stating that these distractions, as serious as they may appear, have not had a direct impact on our schools or the quality of services received by students.  Nor have they had any negative influence in the communication and support the schools and centres have received from EMSB senior management to maintain the high quality of education for our students.  We would like to highlight the success of EMSB students and staff in continuing to strive for excellence at all levels and in the many different programs we offer.  EMSB students’ access to quality education and services has always been the priority of the schools, their staff, parents, and administration both in the schools, centres and the school board.

We are confident that the governance issues will be resolved and our stakeholders can be assured that our focus will remain meeting the needs of our students and their sustained pedagogical growth in our schools and centres.

On behalf of the AMSA Board of Directors,
Franca Cristiano
AMSA President
